CHAPTER 30

Fibonacci and the Golden Pocket

Fibonacci does not predict direction - it measures price. The golden pocket is that measurement turned into an entry zone with the best R. This chapter covers the anchor, the five levels, extensions and the mistakes.

30.1What Fibonacci Actually Measures

When a leg forms (swing low to swing high), part of it usually retraces. Fibonacci measures that ratio. 61.8% or 70.5% do nothing on their own - they matter when an FVG, an OB or a liquidity sweep already sits at that price.

30.2Which Leg To Anchor

  • Anchor the leg that just broke structure (BOS), not last week leg.
  • Wick to wick, the same way on every timeframe.
  • Long: low to high. Short: high to low. Reversed anchors flip every level.
  • Never keep more than one Fib set active at a time.

30.3The Five Levels That Matter

LevelMeaningWhat to do
50%
Equilibrium of the leg
First warning, not an entry
61.8%
Top of the pocket
The zone starts here
65%
Classic pocket bottom
The classic trader limit
70.5%

Best single price for a limit
78.6%

Last chance; below it the idea is dead
100%
Swing extreme = invalidation
The stop lives here

30.4The Golden Pocket: Three Definitions

Classic 61.8-65% versus ICT OTE 62-79%
Fig. 30.2 Classic 61.8-65% versus ICT OTE 62-79%
DefinitionRangeWhen to use
Classic
61.8% - 65%
Fewer fills, best R
ICT OTE
62% - 79%
More fills, needs a trigger inside
Precision line
70.5%
One price, tightest stop
None of them is "correct" - the question is your trigger type. If you wait for a 1-minute MSS, use the OTE zone. If you sit on a limit order, the 70.5% line is enough.

30.5How To Draw It In Five Steps

Drawing the pocket in five steps
Fig. 30.3 Drawing the pocket in five steps
  1. Find the leg that produced the BOS.
  2. Drag from low to high (or high to low), wick to wick.
  3. Keep only 0.5, 0.618, 0.65, 0.705, 0.786, 1, 1.272 and 1.618.
  4. Highlight the 61.8-78.6 box in green.
  5. Wait for an MSS with an FVG inside the pocket.

30.6Extensions: Where To Take Profit

1.272
TP1
The standard first target
1.414
Midpoint
Optional, weaker
1.618
TP2 or runner
Works best on large legs

30.7Confluence: When A Level Becomes An Entry

Pocket, FVG and OB at one price
Fig. 30.5 Pocket, FVG and OB at one price
  • Pocket plus FVG is the A+ setup.
  • Pocket plus OB tells you exactly where the stop goes.
  • Pocket plus sweep plus MSS is the highest probability.
  • Pocket alone is a coin flip.

30.8Five Common Mistakes

A wrong anchor is the real problem
Fig. 30.6 A wrong anchor is the real problem
"Fibonacci gives you a price, not permission. Permission comes from structure."

30.9Checklist

  • Did the leg create a BOS?
  • Is the anchor wick-to-wick?
  • Are there levels outside the five?
  • Is there an FVG or OB inside the pocket?
  • What is the plan if price goes below 78.6%?
