CHAPTER 6

Time & Price: When To Trade

The right price at the wrong time still loses. Half of ICT's edge is knowing which windows of the day actually deliver price.

6.1What A Killzone Is

A killzone is the window in which a session's large orders get executed. Price moves fast, displacement forms and FVGs are born. Outside these windows price usually chops inside a range.

6.2Session Personalities

Judas + MSS + FVG
New York 18:30-21:00
The biggest expansion of the day
The main trading window

Dead, wide spreads
Rest
NY PM 23:00-01:30
Secondary reversal or continuation
Silver Bullet 2-3pm

6.3Power of Three (AMD)

Every day runs in three acts: accumulation, manipulation, distribution. The daily candle itself shows it: open, a fake push one way, then a body in the other direction.
AMD: accumulation, manipulation, distribution
Fig. 6.3 AMD: accumulation, manipulation, distribution
  1. The Asian range is the accumulation zone.
  2. The first London move is the manipulation, the Judas swing.
  3. New York is the distribution - where the big leg happens.
  4. Enter when manipulation ends, exit during distribution.

6.4The Judas Swing

The first aggressive move of a session is often a lie. Breakout traders enter, stops get taken, and then the real direction begins.

  • The Judas is most likely inside the first 60 minutes.
  • If there is no 5m MSS after the sweep, do not fade the move.
  • Trade against the sweep, not with the breakout.

6.5True Day and the Midnight Open

The 00:00 New York open (11:00 Dhaka) is the fairest price of the new day. Above it, the day is premium; below it, discount.

6.6Macro Windows and Silver Bullet Times

ICT marks specific 20-minute and one-hour windows where the algorithm is most active. They are not secret codes - they relate to session opens.

6.7The Weekly Profile

The week is also an AMD cycle: Monday builds the range, Tuesday and Wednesday deliver, Thursday often takes the opposing pool, Friday closes.

6.8News Hours

From Bangladesh the two news windows that matter are 18:30 (US data) and 20:00-21:00 when FOMC or NFP lands. Do not open new positions in the five minutes around a release.
StateRule
5 minutes before high impact news
No new entries
Already in a position
Tighten the stop or close 50 percent
After the release
Wait for the first 5-minute candle to close
If spreads widen
Stand aside and reassess later

6.9The Time Checklist

  • Am I inside a killzone? If not, close the chart.
  • Which AMD phase is today in?
  • Which session high or low is still untouched?
  • Is a macro window coming up?
  • Is there news?
